Hepimiz hayvanat bahçelerini severiz değil mi? En azından birbirinden değerli hayvan türlerini görmek, doğayla bütünleşmek hepimizin ruhunu okşamıştır. Peki bir hayvanat bahçesini satın alsaydınız? Mükemmel olurdu değil mi? Lakin bayağı bir çalışma gerekirdi…

İşte Benjamin Mee, bahsettiğimiz olayı gerçekleştiriyor ve bir hayvanat bahçesi satın alıyor. Bütün macera da başlamış oluyor…

“Düşler Bahçesi” yazar Benjamin Mee’nin kendi hayatını anlattığı bir kitap. Daha sonra filmini izleme şansı bulduğum bu roman, İngiltere’de geçiyor. Filmde ise kahramanlarımızı Amerika’da görüyoruz.

Film, kitaptan uyarlanmış; fakat birtakım değişikliklere uğramış. Mesela Benjamin’e bir Kelly ile ilişki eklenmiş. Okurken dikkatimi Katherine’in olduğu bölümler çekmişti, Katherine’in acısını hissedebiliyordum. Tümörden hayatını yitiren Katherine Mee de aslında Benjamin’in macerasının başlamasına yardımcı oluyor. Ne yazık ki açılışını bile göremeden ölüyor… Geride ise Benjamin ve iki çocuğu kalıyor: Rosie ve Dylan.

Ekibimiz göreve hazır!

Benjamin, hayvanat bahçesini almaya karar verdikten sonra sıkı bir çalışma başlar. Burada çalışan Kelly de ona çok yardımcı olur. Bu da aralarında bağ oluşmasına etkili olacaktır… Kelly’nin kuzeni Lily ile Dylan da kısa sürede dost olurlar. Her şey iyi giderken “gıcık” bir tip olan Walter Ferris’in ani gelişi ortamı gerer… Acaba bu hayvanat bahçesi gerçekten açılabilecek midir?

Filmin yönetmen koltuğunda Cameron Crowe oturuyor. Filmde ise Matt Damon (Benjamin), Scarlett Johansson (Kelly), Thomas Haden Church (Duncan), Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Rosie), Colin Ford (Dylan), Elle Fanning (Lily), Angus MacFadyen (MacCready), Patrick Fugit (Robin Jones), John Michael Higgins (Walter Ferris) ve Stephanie Szostak (Katherine) yer alıyor.

Filmde en çok Rosie karakterini beğendim desem yanlış olmaz sanırım. Gerçekten çok tatlı ve sevimli bir kız. Geleceğinin parlak olduğunu düşünüyorum. Colin Ford ile Elle Fanning de başarılı genç oyuncular arasında.  Lily ile Dylan’ın muhabbetleri de çok hoştu.

Matt Damon ise bir dünya harikası olmuş da farkına varamamışız. =) O bakışlar, hüznü yaşayışı… Scarlett Johansson da rolüne gereken uyumu sağlamış, Matt Damon’la olan uyumu başarılı.

Jonsi imzalı soundtrack ise şahane, dinlemenizi öneririm. Filmin ruhunu yansıtabilen bir çalışma olmuş. Kitabı da iyi hissetmemi sağladı diyebilirim. Şu anda da dinliyorum…

Sanırım beni en çok etkileyen Dylan (Colin Ford) ile Benjamin’in (Matt Damon) konuşmaları oldu. Son dönemlerde aslında hepimizin de birbirimizi anlamamız için yapmamız gereken bir tartışma… Küskünlüklerin de bir sebebi vardır ve en büyük sorunların çözümü bile dudağımızdan çıkacak kelimelere bağlıdır. Bazen “Seni Seviyorum” deriz, karşılık beklemeksizin… Bazen ise ümitsizcesine bağırırız çevremizdekilere, kelimelerin anlamı yoktur.

Bu duygularla söyleyebilirim ki içinizi ısıtan bir filmi izlemek istiyorsanız We Bought A Zoo uygun bir seçim olacaktır. Özellikle son sahne için bile izlenebilir.

            Kitapla karşılaştırdığımda ise kitaptan daha sürükleyici olduğunu fark ettim; ancak kitabın da yerinin ayrı olduğunu düşünüyorum. İkisi de çok duygusal ama…

                                    WE BOUGHT A ZOO

            All of us like zoos, right? At least, seeing wonderful species and become in nature makes our soul relief. But if you bought a zoo? Wow, it’d be amazing, huh? But it needed a lot of hard work.

            Benjamin Mee does that and he buys a zoo! Then the entire adventure begins after that…

            “We Bought A Zoo” is a book which Benjamin Mee tells his story. After reading the book, i’ve had a chance to see the movie. The book takes place in England but the movie does it in the USA.

            The movie was based on the book with a few changes like Benjamin Mee actually doesn’t have a relationship after his wife’s death but in the movie he has. While i was reading the book, i felt Katherine’s pain so deep. Katherine Mee, have died from cancer. She supported his husband, Benjamin to follow his dreams and begin that advneture. But sadly she couldn’t even see the opening of the zoo. Only Benjamin and their two kids: Dylan and Rosie remains after her.

            When Benjamin decides to buy the zoo, a hard work starts, everybody at this place love their job passionately. Kelly also keeps on working and their relationship with Benjamin begins… Kelly’s cousin Lily also becomes a really close friends with Benjamin’s son Dylan. When everything goes on just fine, an obstacle appears. An annoying guy named Walter Ferris, “visits” the zoo with a surprise. Could it be really open?

            Movie’s directed by Cameron Crowe. Starring Matt Damon (Benjamin), Scarlett Johansson (Kelly), Thomas Haden Church (Duncan), Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Rosie), Colin Ford (Dylan), Elle Fanning (Lily), Angus MacFadyen (MacCready), Patrick Fugit (Robin Jones), John Michael Higgins (Walter Ferris) and Stephanie Szostak (Katherine).

            I think it’s time to tell the truth. Umm, ok. The truth is the girl who acts as Rosie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) is so adorable and cute. She’ll be a bright star next couple years for sure. Colin Ford and Elle Fanning are a great couple, genius kids, sorry actors! They’re now great actors. Lily and Dylan’s conversations were so nice.

            Matt Damon has became a Wonder of the World and we haven’t even realised. =) His looks, the looks that live in the sadness… Scarlett Johansson’s combined with her character well. They both look perfect, together!

            I can offer you the soundtrack from Jonsi. Made me feel the book and the movie both so clearly. Brilliant!

            I do think that my favorite scene was that when Benjamin and Dylan had argued… The conversation we all need in our lives. Every piques have a reason, sometimes big problems can be solve by the words come out inside of our lips. Sometimes we just say “I Love You” without expecting a return. Sometimes we just shout to somebody, words doesn’t mean anything at that moment.

            With that emotions, i guarantee We Bought A Zoo is a great choice if you want a warm drama. Thought that it’s more fascinating than the book; but you should read the book first to understand it… My personal opinion!

        Sometimes we look at covers of books and feel so warm about them. Even though, we don’t know what it is about…

            This book made me feel the same feelings that i’m not actually a person who buys books for their author; but when i saw “Tim Burton” above the title, i’ve thought like “Uh-huh! This’ll be mine!”

I’m not regretting!

            You’ll understand me when you read the book. If you’re a Tim Burton fan, then i insist you to read that book. I’ve loved it…

            Think that you combine some poems about gothic style mixes with the endless imagination. That equals Tim Burton! He makes you feel terrible and the happiest person at the same time.

Think of chuckling while you’re crying…

Who Is Tim Burton?: An American director, writer, producer, artist who was born in 1958. His movies’ theme is usually dark and quirky such as Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and more. Often works with Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp.

            You could read stories like “Stain Boy”, “Sue”, “Voodoo Girl” and lot more… My favorite one’s Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love.

            Annemarie and Ellen are best friends who live in Copenhagen in 1943. They were having fun with Annemarie’s little sister Kirsti. But things were about to change from that moment. Nazis have arrived to Copenhagen and they weren’t gonna stop. Ellen’s family had to leave just because they’re “Jewish” people. Annemarie also had to risk her life for her friendship. Is she gonna be able to see Ellen again?

            The book’s written by Lois Lowry. He’s received the Newberry Medal for “Number the Stars” and “The Giver.” I think it was very well-written. It’s actually about the courage, friendship and hard times.

            Like i said before (and i’ll also say it now) judging people by their nationality is nothing but immaturity. No one chooses who you are, which family he or she has, which color of eyes he or she has or we can example lot more. We only choose what we can do in our lives and only the time is equal for everyone.

            And i can really say i’ve liked the book. Thanks Lois Lowry for this awesome book, for making me cry silently, for using the words like gems!

            Like you know, today’s Jorge Luis Borges’ 112th birthday. Google also made a design for this event. But do we really know who Borges is?

            Jorge Luis Borges was born in Buenos Aires, August 26th 1899. He’s an Argentine author, poet and translator. He’s written his first book “Fervor de Buenos Aires” in 1923.

SİHİRLİ ŞEHİR/THE CITY OF EMBER

SİHİRLİ ŞEHİR

Lina Mayfleet ile Doon Harrow, Ember Şehri’nde yaşayan iki arkadaştır. İkisi de mesleklerini seçmek üzeredirler, okullarını bitirmişlerdir. Küçükken aralarında yaşadıkları tartışmadan sonra bir daha asla birbirleriyle konuşmazlar, ta ki çektikleri meslekleri değişme kararı alana kadar. Şehirde de gün geçtikçe elektrik kesintileri artmaya başlamış, her kesildiğinde de şehir karanlığa boğulmuştur. Bir gün Lina, küçük kardeşi Poppy’nin yemeye çalıştığı kâğıttaki talimatları keşfeder ve bu talimatların gizemini çözmeye çalışırlar. Belki de Lina’nın hayalindeki şehri bulabileceklerdir. Kader Doon ile Lina’yı tekrar bir araya getirir.

Aynı zamanda filmi de olan kitabın yazarı Jeanne DuPrau. Nefes kesici bir yolculuğa eşlik etmemizi sağlamış yazar.  O kadar beğendim ki ikinci kitabını okuyorum şu anda. Onun hakkında da yazacağımın garantisini veririm.

Filme gelince de başrollerde güzel ve genç yıldız Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, Özgürlük Yolu), Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank), Tim Robbins (Esaretin Bedeli, Dünyalar Savaşı) ve Bill Murray (Bir Konuşabilse, Get Low) yer alıyor.

Filmin yönetmeni ise Oscar adaylı Gil Kenan. Aynı zamanda “Monster House” filminin de yönetmenliğini yapmıştır.

Film ile kitabı karşılaştırınca kitabın bende daha fazla etki bıraktığını fark ettim. Jeanne DuPrau’yu bu konuda kutlarım, iyi bir esere imza atmış. Filmi de zevkliydi; ancak kitabın yerini tutamayacağını düşünüyorum.

Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow are close friends who live in Ember. They’re both about to choose their jobs, graduated from school. They never talk to each other after an argument they had when they were kids, until they decide to switch the jobs they chose. In the city, there are more power cuts day by day and with a power cut the city gets into deep darkness. One day, Lina finds out that there were instructions on a paper that her little sister has already chewed. Doon and Lina try to reconstruct the instructions and the adventure begins. Destiny made them closer.

The book also has a movie and the author of it is Jeanne DuPrau. She made us get into the breathtaking adventure. I’ve liked it so much that i started the second book of Ember. I guarantee i’ll write an article about it soon.

Cast is the beautiful young Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Way Back), Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank), Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption, War of the Worlds) and Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Get Low)

The director of the movie is Oscar nominee Gil Kenan. He also directed Monster House.

Comparing the book and the movie makes me think that book’s better; because it takes you away from the moment and makes you excited when you read. So i think Jeanne DuPrau has written a succesfull book but i can say that i also love the movie. (just because of the cast)
